Day 1 of a Poem Every Day

I’m starting my daily poetry exercise with a haiku—not only because haiku are shorter and less daunting—but because the gorgeous weather outside has me thinking of nature, which lends itself so well to haiku.

sunstreams

pierce the cloud blanket

light burns through to feed the earth

green leaves on the trees

Today is one of those days where there is cloud cover, but every now and then a patch of bright blue sky…and with the dark green leaves (they’re usually light green for another month, but I love the trees in June for their darker leaves) against that blue sky…well, it’s very difficult to sit inside all day! I’m very fortunate to have a window, else my poem might have been very different.
